U.S. must stop acting stupid on planned missile bases in Europe. Russia must be included.

I have never been a fan of Russia's policies or Russian politics. And yet I can't help but think that when it comes to discussion about the U.S. plans to build 2 new missile bases in Poland and the Czech Republic, America is acting ridiculously stupid.

Don't get me wrong: Russia is not and, perhaps, will never be our "friend" like Britain. Russia is our competitor on the global stage. An ally? Maybe, some time in the future. But Moscow sure is NOT our enemy like Iran, North Korea and, highly probably in the future, China.

Therefore, playing this senseless Cold War thing - "keeping Russians out whatever it takes" - simply isn't working anymore.

Yes, Russian President Putin may have scored an "in your face, stupid!" victory when he suggested that, instead of deepening the existing division trenches, Russia and the U.S. partner up in using the existing Russian station in Azerbayjan. Yes, he certainly intends to gain some political capital on it - so what?! As long as it serves our true, not imaginable, national interests, why not go for it?

Unless, of course, our President Bush - an intellectual misery, to put it mildly - decides to use his usual "I'm gonna do it my own way and if you ain't happy 'bout it, then fuck ya!" appoach.

If he does, the history will be given another fine argument why he should go down as "the worst U.S. President ever".
